I still remember the day when Malcolm first made me sign a non-disclosure agreement, placed in front of me a handful of crackers and then - with a beaming smile, excitement, pride and enthusiasm written across his face - pulled an unlabelled jar out of his bag. What I was about to taste was unforgettably delicious - and it was really hard not to tell the world about it straight away!
Ultimately, my job(s) seemed to be to taste lots of jam samples and to discuss the overtones of apricot and citrus fruits and the texture of honey and pear as Malcolm cooked his way towards the final recipe. The rest of the time I listened to the fascinating stories he has to tell about Africa, its land, its people, its hopes, its dreams, its crops and baobab.
Yozuna, its products and its approach to trade and production are Malcolm's and Sophie's vision. They came full of ideas, enthusiasm and armed with lots of images and photographs.
The making of the Yozuna.com website was one of those rare experiences in life where everything seemed to fall in place. No doubt about it: it was hard work. But at the end of the day (or months!), the whole seems to have a life of its own and as such is much bigger than the sum of its parts. It is hard to say who did what and as a result we're proud about what we achieved together.
It is an honour to be part of this project. It's early but some huge successes indicate that this will go far.
